Captain of Security




Department of Corrections






 POSITION SUMMARY:Senior uniformed staff member working under the Deputy Warden for Security.  Provides ongoing and daily supervision of all security functions within the Correctional Facility.


  • Responsible for all security functions in the facility.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of security personnel including schedule bidding, overtime, vacation and post assignments.
  • Provides direct supervision of all Lieutenants, Records Office, Reception Unit, Sanitation and Laundry staff.
  • Serves on various committees.
  • Conducts internal investigations and oversees criminal complaints, investigates staff and inmate disciplinary actions.
  • Oversees various specialty units.
  • Ensures armory and other security equipment is maintained in a state of readiness.
  • Prepares budget for area of responsibility and makes sure appropriate budget items are purchased.
  • Serves as Department Duty Office “on call” as assigned.
  • Ensures the Plan of the Day is followed.
  • Performs other tasks as may be assigned.

  • Possess a proven track record of administrative ability in the achievement of program objectives through the direction of subordinates.
  • Must possess initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of current theories, techniques and trends as they relate to the security of the Bucks County Correctional Facility and the Department of Corrections.
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the security of a correctional facility (Title 37).
  • Must have seven (7) years’ experience in corrections with a least two (2) years’ experience as a manager (Lieutenant pay range or above) with the Bucks County Department of Corrections.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.This must include a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Manager (Lieutenant pay range or above) with the Bucks County Department of Corrections.
  • Possess excellent written communication skills and have the ability to communicate well with the public in a clear, courteous and concise manner.
  • Ability to plan, develop and implement policies & procedures for the efficient operation of the facility.
  • Keyboard skill of 20 WPM with knowledge of computer programs which include but not limited to Microsoft Office, OMSE, Livescan, PowerDMS, DVM, Inmate Telephone Platform, and KRONOS.
